Geothermal Program Fact Sheets. This project intends to develop a district heating system for the ISOT community in the town of Canby. The project will provide a demonstration showing the economic benefits and efficacy of retrofitting and expanding an existing, older propane-based system to use geothermal resources. This is projected to provide an energy cost savings of 45 percent to the area for the first three years, and more later . The ISOT community, in partnership with Modoc Contracting Company, and with added funding from the USDOE, has drilled and proved an exploratory geothermal well to provide the resource. The remainder of the project consists of designing and constructing a discharge system to the Pit River for the spent waters, designing and building the retrofitted heating system, and in cooperation with USDOE/NREL, monitoring the system and discharge.
